Bobby Liu
General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer
Bobby is an accomplished attorney with over 22 years of legal experience. As General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer since inception, Bobby oversees all legal, regulatory and compliance matters at the firm. He serves as AMERRA’s primary senior management contact with various regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Bobby regularly supports AMERRA’s investment teams with ongoing transactional and contractual legal advice and he also manages the firm’s compliance program and when required, handles various litigation matters. He also works closely with his AMERRA colleagues on various tax, audit, marketing and performance, and operational issues.
Bobby is also the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of the M.D. Sass organization, which is one of AMERRA’s shareholders. Bobby started his legal career with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he was an associate from 1996 to 2003. He then served as the first attorney and General Counsel hired by Och-Ziff Capital Management Group, a leading hedge fund manager, from 2003 to 2005.
Bobby graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Economics and History from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He also has a J.D. from the New York University School of Law. He was selected as one of the Best Lawyers under 40 in 2011 by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He is proficient in Mandarin Chinese. In his spare time, he is usually training for marathons.
